The difference between the bluetooth module using ceramic antenna and PCB antenna

1. Ceramic Antenna

Ceramic antenna is a miniaturized antenna suitable for Bluetooth devices, and it is divided into block ceramic antenna and multilayer ceramic antenna.

The ceramic antenna occupies a small space and has better performance; the bandwidth is narrow, and it is difficult to achieve multiple frequency bands; the integration of the motherboard can be effectively improved, and the restriction on the ID of the antenna can be reduced; the design needs to be introduced at the beginning of the definition of the motherboard.

Block antenna: Use high temperature to sinter the whole ceramic body once and then print the metal part of the antenna on the surface of the ceramic block.

Multi-layer antenna: the firing adopts the low-temperature co-firing method, and the multi-layer ceramics are stacked and aligned and then sintered at high temperature, so the metal conductor of the antenna can be printed on each layer of ceramic dielectric layer according to the design requirements, so that it can be effectively The size of the antenna is reduced, and the purpose of hiding the antenna can be achieved.

Since the dielectric constant of the ceramic itself is higher than that of the pcb circuit board, the use of a ceramic antenna can effectively reduce the size of the antenna while ensuring the performance of the antenna.
2. PCB antenna

The PCB antenna refers to the part on the PCB used for wireless reception and transmission. When transmitting, it converts the high-frequency current of the transmitter into space electromagnetic waves; when receiving, it converts the electromagnetic waves intercepted from space into high-frequency currents and sends them to the receiver.

Analysis of Advantages and Disadvantages of PCB Antenna

The advantages are: less space occupation, low cost, no need to assemble the antenna separately, it is not easy to touch and damage, and the whole machine is easy to assemble;
The disadvantages are: it is difficult to achieve a round pattern for a single antenna, the insertion loss is high, the efficiency is relatively low, and it is easy to be interfered by the motherboard.
3. Can 2.4G and other high-frequency products use these two antennas?

Although 2.4G and other high-frequency products can use ceramic or PCB antennas to reduce the size, subG requires a larger space for the same gain due to the long wavelength of electromagnetic waves, so products in this frequency band rarely use the above two antennas.
